What is new and local?

New and local is a solution to a common problem. You know how people say, i can't get a job with out experience and i can get experience with out a job?

Well, you can't get artistic credibility with out reveiws, and no reviews without credibility.

So we step in,
Here, we review bands, new bands, CD or no CD, at the beginning of their career.

There a bunch of other ways we differ too. Your band or your friends band will (hopefully) get better with time. And so we'll re-reveiw.

That way you won't have a review of your first week as a band one year down the road.

Also, we will compile "Best of" lists, first by month, then by state. We'll post links and help get the word out. We'll do as much as we can to help out growing bands

The Index

Quebec based alternative rock

THE GOOD the guitarists (Patrick Dunphy, Brian Pearson) throws out interesting riffs on his guitars, and the drum beating Jason Goodall keeps the beat going. Corner of the world was the song that i enjoyed the most. The vocal lines are modest-mouse-esque

THE BAD Bass tracks on The Index's recording is nearly inaudible. As the vocals were a bit karaoke and the songs tended to go on longer than i expected they have a "jam band" kind of feel.

THE VERDICT (3/5) Very radio-friendly band, they don't take any chances or bring much new to the plate, however they do it very well. I wouldn't either watch this band closely or put them out of my mind. Go to one of their shows and see what they can do.

Bynow

Bynow is a piano-rock trio out of Provo, utah that has hit the ground running.

THE GOOD-With Sarah Kaiser on keyboard and vocals, Adam Kaiser on drums and vocals and Rachel Kaiser on bass and vocals they are hoarding one of the hardest to find things in local music, good voices. Further separating them from the typical girl "paint by the numbers piano pop" is interesting musical stylings from arabian sounding riffs to what has been described as a "much less dreary dresden dolls" style piece. Their vocal harmonies and musical uniqueness set them apart from the the rest of the scene.

THE BAD- There really isn't much to pick apart now, I could complain that their EP is super short (under 12 minutes) or that the production is not the best quality, but these are common for newer bands. The EP, however, was a charming and welcome listen

RESULT-(5/5) A band worth throwing your support behind. I think a full length album from these guys could definetly be worth getting (if they can make it as listenable as the EP), keep your eyes on them.
